Who’s the poor sod that got the shortest end of the stick out of all of us here? Admit it! You can also nominate others.

Fiesta with a recalled transmission and/or clutch (some Fiestas and Focuses are worse than others. This recall affects pretty much all the models equipped with the 1.6L 4-cylinder DCT).
Currently been waiting three months for the dealership to get my new clutch. No word yet on how much longer it’s going to take.

I want to nominate Murdersofa jake. just because his shit is ALWAYS fucking broken.
or about to break.
even though he buys seemingly reliable cars.

I’m going to say you, or Ike’s now sold V70R. Or anyone with an Allroad

Jesus, my wallet just emptied looking at this photo.

Like your style. I’d only attempt this if I lived VERY close to work.

Seeing as I drive a Volkswagen I was going to jokingly nominate myself. But then the Allroad was already mentioned twice so I’m out of the running by a mile.

Well, we all know *someone’s* Citroen won’t start.

I had a 2000 V70R with multiple rebuilt titles. Stolen twice. Flood car. Wrecked three times. No driveshaft. Wrong bumper. Stranded me many times. And I sold it for a loss.

I may have a different definition of reliable... I would consider my Niva quite reliable. But every now and then have to remind myself that I don't know many other people who have gone to get groceries with no clutch, minimal brakes, and only 3/5 gears...

I’d say landyacht 225's S600. I’m not sure if he still has it. My S600 isn’t a bastion of reliability either though.

2006 Buick Lucerne. Not overall but as far as expected vs achieved reliability maybe?
So far the death toll in the last 10 months is:
2 separate check engine lights
Auto start stopped working for ~2 months, no idea why
Super dead battery, wouldn’t jump start from charging point in engine bay, removed rear seat to get to the actual battery (who the hell puts a battery there?), jumped fine from there and hasn’t been a problem since. WTF
Drivers door handle broke off quite easily.
Rear-passenger door mysteriously doesn’t work at all
Tire pressure sensor went off randomly, didn’t have low tire pressure, re-set it and it hasn’t gone off since
Front-drivers speaker will occasionally start sounding like chewbacca getting murdered
Every once in a while the headlights (automatic) will just refuse to come on. Cleaning the sensor doesn’t seem to help
Engine shield (little plastic wind/dirt/water shielding under the engine/transmission) randomly fell off halfway
Plastic trim in rear doorway ripped off (this one is probably mostly my fault but that shit shouldn’t be held on by 2 clips)
I’m sure I missed something. Basically GM really doesn’t know how electronics work.

Was about to ask if it was the clutch or TCM until I read the SECOND sentence. The issue is with 2.0 equipped models as well. My Focus had the TCM die at 42K miles. Turned the car into a brick. The TCM’s are covered to 150K now....

i nominate myself with a ‘06 vw Passat. surprisingly it’s held up really well and hasn’t had any big problems. it also doesn’t have tiny minuscule problems I have to figure out every month either, which is really surprising.

Excuse me but I am the clear winner, a 45 year old British truck made by the Spanish. 1971 Land Rover Santana Series IIA 109. It was freshly imported from a Spanish desert village with <500 people.
Bought it in November for $12,000 , got it home early January, drove it up the hill and parked it in the driveway to immediately freeze the block and entire cooling system that night. Got it towed to the Land Rover Series/Defender specialist shop a few towns away. We knew we would have to put a bunch of work into it, but it ended up getting just under $12,000 (mostly because they charge $105 an hour for labor) in work/maintenance/upgrades. We have probably driven it about 30 miles since it has gotten back, we are planning on taking it back to the shop on Wednesday to finish a few more things.
But those thirty miles have probably been the best of my life and I wouldn’t change a thing.

4 of my 5 cars are currently broken. Not sure if I have the most unreliable car here, but in terms of overall statistics I seem to be doing quite poorly.
![]() 04/04/2016 at 20:51 |

I have a 242k mile non-diesel BMW... and it’s cost me ~$200 in a year and a half of ownership. Most reliable unreliable car ever?

My complete and utter lemon of a V6 S197 Mustang. Out of the three (?) months I’ve had it I drove it for barely one of them, and it has spent the rest of the time in the shop for endless small repairs. It was in the shop so long the tags expired so now that it’s fixed I can’t drive it until I can register it, which is yet another logistics nightmare.
Knock on wood with the Buick.
![]() 04/04/2016 at 21:43 |

Thanks, he has a new set of head gaskets with studs instead of stretch bolts. Hopefully I’ll never have to worry about that again.
![]() 04/04/2016 at 21:52 |
|
I would like to know more about those studs in place of stretch bolts
![]() 04/04/2016 at 21:55 |
|
ARP makes them for the Buick 215/Rover 3.5L. I don’t remember the part number. But they work just fine, all you have to do is not use the outer 8 super short studs.
![]() 04/04/2016 at 22:00 |

Hm may need to do that in a few thousand Ms
![]() 04/04/2016 at 22:00 |

It’s a tank of a car, no doubt, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s reliable though, does it? You’re a braver man than I on that front.
![]() 04/04/2016 at 22:05 |
|
Atlantic British sells them, kinda pricey but worth the price as you don’t have to worry about the usual bullshit with the gaskets. Don’t over torque them though because you can fuck up the block. Comes with three sizes and you use the long and medium lengths.
![]() 04/04/2016 at 22:08 |
|
Those and cometic gaskets are the way to go.

![]() 04/04/2016 at 22:39 |

Umm. I got this. Maybe. On the slight technicality of not quite being old enough to have a license (1 more year!) I must submit the Mini-Hilux complete with Topgear-ification. Oh wait, you said unreliable, oops. Any poor unfortunate opponauts who own an Alfa (even though we are all jealous of them).

![]() 04/04/2016 at 23:23 |

How does it take them three months to get a clutch? That’s bullcrap. I hope your car is under warranty and they are giving you a loner....with a manual lol.
![]() 04/04/2016 at 23:23 |
|
So your wallet pretty much empties itself quite often, I guess, right?
Amazeballs cars, my dad would kill to have that X-Type and I love Discos.

Came here to nominate myself with the every-plastic-rotted Mini, front-crashed MazdaSpeed and the new W164 ML, which is bound to break the bank with electrical gremlins...
Then I saw the guy that has put 30 miles on his Spanish-made Classic Defender.
I’ll see myself out.
![]() 04/04/2016 at 23:29 |
|
It is under warranty. Nope, I don’t have a loaner. I’m driving the car with a faulty clutch. They returned it to me. I’ve been waiting three months (so far) because all the automated manual Fiestas and Focuses from about 2010-2014 suffer from this problem. That’s millions of cars.
Needless to say, my parts are on back order.
![]() 04/04/2016 at 23:33 |

I nominate my Saabaru. 1. It’s not even a turbo. Before I bought it it got a new clutch at 60k.
So far it’s needed (this year)
Headgaskets
Struts/ mounts were toast
Brakes (were supposedly done before I got car but obviously not correctly, I had to rebuild calipers)
Balljoints
Tie-rods
Exhaust-work
Bought for 7G with 60k I’m up close to 10k now with only 20,000 miles put on it
